Matthew Thornton
Matthew Thornton is the founding member of Tennessee Law & Mediation. Matthew has twenty-two years of courtroom experience in the primary areas of probate/estate administration and litigation and eleven years of experience as a Tennessee Supreme Court Listed Rule 31 Mediator. Drawing upon his broad legal experience and mediation training, he has successfully represented clients in negotiating disputes, mediation, and civil trials when negotiation fails to achieve his clients’ desired results. He has been recognized among his peers as a "Super Lawyer" in Estate Litigation for multiple years.
Matthew received his B.S. and J.D. degrees from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Matthew has participated in the Leo Bearman, Sr. American Inn of Court and is a graduate of the Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law Class of 2005. He formerly served on the Executive Council of the Estate Planning and Probate Section of the Tennessee Bar Association.
Matthew frequently speaks on probate law to other lawyers and community groups at venues across Tennessee regarding mediation and estate administration tips and techniques. Upon request of the judges, Matthew occasionally serves as a substitute judge in Courts of Probate Jurisdiction. He frequently offers pro bono legal advice and assistance to local charities. When he’s not in the office, Matthew enjoys outdoor activities with his family and fishing.
